It was great hearing Heaven KNows and Happy Birthday live for the first time! I was curious about how they'd do heaven Knows... They have the trumpet and the Bah Bah Baaahs sampled and David presses the correct pedal to get them playing at the right time, and Johnny and Brandy add their Bahs to that. It really sounds great! Happy Birthday is a fun song to hear live, Kenny's out with his accordion on it. LP is just fucking amazing. Wow. Wow. Wow. She is just great every time. When she comes out to sing, the whole band seem to get really into it. Brandy was totally rocking out... bending into seemingly impossible positions and sporting shades in Perfect... Perfect has such great carrying momentum for a live song too. Super!
David made some comments to the half indifferent crowd including a "When I was in college" one about how they ought to be drinking. There were a few fans out in front of the stage dancing and standing but most were in the bleachers watching, and there were even many standing in line to do the cheesy American Gladiator type stuff. Brandy is now David's cousin from Pine Bluff, Arkansas... and Kenny's from Roanoke! ;-) They declined with the encore pretenses and opted to play straight through rather than waste time....Kenny had a long keyboard solo in Mr. Wrong... The new way they're doing Get Off This is really fun! During the nah nah part they get quite while David and Johnny say "fuck the slice I want the pie" and now Brandy keeps up with the Nah Nahs and she really pulls out some GREAT vocals on it.
Cracker had to play such a short set because they had to haul ass to Va Beach that night for the next show. They made it though, but just barely.
